Grand Hotel Santa Lucia

Stayed two nights in October in a fifth-floor “Classic Executive” room. It was an attic room with a sloping ceiling and a window looking straight at the wall of the next building. Very cramped, and the room name certainly sounded better than the room itself. The shower-head holder was broken, so I had to hold the shower head in one hand or crouch underneath it. The glass screen only covered part of the bathtub, and every shower left water all over the bathroom floor. No anti-slip mat either. My head almost touched the sloping ceiling while showering, and when sitting on the toilet, my knees almost touched the side of the bathtub. There was also a persistent sewage smell around the toilet. I showed the manager a video of the shower in the morning and was told it would be fixed. Came back later and it was still broken. It stayed that way until checkout. She did offer another room, but I didn’t want to spend part of a two-night stay packing everything up and moving. I wanted the shower fixed. The “desk” was a narrow console table. I had to move the kettle and tray just to fit my laptop. That barely mattered, because the Wi-Fi was extremely slow and kept disconnecting. Even basic internet use was frustrating. I wasn’t expecting a suite or a sea view. A shower that works, a bathroom that doesn’t flood and usable Wi-Fi shouldn’t be too much to ask. I wouldn’t stay at this hotel again.

4 stars mainly for the location (you cannot, of course, blame the hotel for the construction work on the street...), with a very beautiful sea view, in a pleasant neighborhood with good restaurants and the possibility to reach almost everything on foot. We had a very nice room, spacious, with a lounge and sea view. The bathroom, quite nice in itself, with a large shower, proved to be problematic: Technical defects in the shower and a slippery floor, without a rug... Very dangerous! The reception unfortunately left something to be desired, which seems a little disappointing in a hotel of this class. We arrived in the morning, around 10 a.m., after an early flight. Although I announced it weeks in advance, the room was not available, which I can possibly understand, but we were not even offered a coffee or a drink... although the temperature outside was already at 30 degrees. In general, the team at the reception seemed quite cold and tense (excluding the friendly bellhop), certainly professional but not particularly hospitable... Watch out for the competition from the GRAN HOTEL VESUVIO right next door where we ate one evening and the reception was particularly accommodating and friendly, at the front desk as well as in the restaurant. The breakfast was quite decent except for the tea (cheap tea bags).

We celebrated our thirtieth wedding anniversary with our first trip ever to Europe. My wife chose Italy as our destination.

Treated ourselves on a one night stay in Naples and worth it! Luxurious and beautiful rooms and highly attentive staff. On the waterfront and the rooms with water views are amazing at night.
