Great Location, But a Very Disappointing Stay — 2.5 Stars

The location of the Grand Hotel Santa Lucia is wonderful, and unfortunately, that was the highlight of our stay.
From the moment we walked in, the hotel felt dated and there was an unpleasant smell. Our room was equally outdated and had a strong mothball-like odor that made it feel anything but fresh or inviting.
The bathroom was another issue. Having to climb into a very high bathtub to shower felt uncomfortable and, frankly, unsafe. The pullout sofa our children slept on was extremely creaky and uncomfortable, and even the pillows in the main bedroom were uncomfortable.
The biggest problem, however, was the air conditioning. We stayed in August, when temperatures were in the high 80s and felt closer to 100 degrees, yet our room never cooled properly. At night, it seemed as though the temperature was being centrally controlled, because the room became unbearably warm. For a hotel of this caliber, functioning air conditioning during the height of summer should be a basic expectation.
We could see that some rooms are currently being remodeled, which is certainly a positive for future guests. However, having to listen to banging and construction noise during our stay was far from relaxing.
The service upon arrival was also disappointing. Our taxi pulled up directly in front of the hotel with all of our luggage, and although hotel staff could see us from inside, no one came outside to assist. Our taxi driver ultimately helped us bring our bags into the hotel. After a long day of traveling in the August heat, that was not the welcome we expected from a hotel at this level.
There is a lot of potential here because the location is excellent, and perhaps the renovated rooms will provide a very different experience. Unfortunately, based on the room and service we received, I cannot recommend the hotel as it currently stands.
2.5 out of 5 stars.
It wasn't quite so...

...Grand after all.
On the positive side, the hotel is located in a calmer area of Naples and our Suite with Sea View had plenty of interior space, except for the bathroom vanity, which was decorative, but short on useable counter space. Nice view overlooking the Castel dell'Ovo and the waterfront. No issues with street noise and the A/C worked fine. The room had a separate sitting area apart from the sleeping area, but the TV had no English-speaking channels. The "balcony" is decorative and not something you could actually use. Housekeeping kept everything tidy and clean.
On the not so positive side...
First off, I usually send an Email to a hotel a few days before arrival to ask a question or two, ensure the reservation is on file, etc. They didn't respond to my Email, so not a good impression from the start.
Our room had adjoining doors to not one but two other rooms, one of which had some very noisy kids in it. At 10:00pm I don't want to hear little kids yelling and running around. The other adjoining room was mostly quiet except for one phone call that was loud.
The bathroom did not have a walk-in shower, but instead had a shower over a tall tub with a very high threshold to step over. It was uncomfortable at best to enter/exit the tub and slick marble all around didn't help make it safer. A mat for the very slippery tub was delivered upon request and helped. The bathroom floor also had an awkward step up / step down in the middle - easy to miss if you don't pay attention. We had one minor fall - lesson learned.
No USB outlets for charging electronics, so bring adapters as needed.
While the lobby is air conditioned, the elevator and hallways aren't. Contrast that with the front desk staff that weren't exactly warm and inviting. The feeling was more like, "What do want?" After returning one day, I asked the front desk for a bucket of ice to be sent up, and was told to go into the bar and get it myself from the bartender. The first bartender was happy to oblige. On a different day, a different bartender seemed put out by my request. There were no customers in the bar area both times.
All around, too many misses for me to recommend to others.
Location kf the hotel was fantastic at the marina. Interiors and facility was in very good condition and luxurious. Hotel staff was very helpful
Exceptional location, but the hotel is in need of a renovation.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Santa Lucia and, without a doubt, one of its main strengths is the excellent location. It is possible to comfortably reach practically everything on foot, and the view of the harbor is truly spectacular: a wonderful panorama, especially from the rooms with a view.
That said, considering the price paid per night, we expected something more. The hotel, both in its exterior and interior spaces, appears rather dated and would certainly need a restyling and a renovation.
The breakfast did not particularly thrill us either: we expected better selection and quality for a hotel of this level. Furthermore, considering the room rate, we would have expected at least complimentary water in the room, which was not included instead.
To compensate for these aspects, however, there was impeccable service throughout the hotel. The staff was professional, helpful, and attentive, and this made the stay pleasant nonetheless.
For our next stay in Naples, we will probably choose to try another hotel, even though we really appreciated the location and the quality of the service.
